NL 7: Prof. Dr. Ernst Schmidt (recorded)

The estate of Prof. Schmidt (*1892 - †1975) spans from 1925 to 1978. It contains materials related to his teaching and research activities at the Technical Universities in Danzig, Braunschweig, and Munich, as well as personal documents and records from his schooling at the Johanneum in Lüneburg. From 1952 to 1961, Prof. Schmidt held the chair of Theoretical Machine Theory and Technical Thermodynamics at the TH Munich and was elected Rector of the THM in 1956. His research interests primarily focused on heat conduction and mass transfer. He gained recognition, particularly for inventing the Alfol insulation, which is a heat insulation method using aluminum foil separated by layers of air.
