NL 84: Dr. Gertrude Krombholz (recorded)

The professional estate of dance and sports educator Gertrude Krombholz (*1933) spans from 1925 to 2020. Dr. Krombholz began leading the Sports Philology training program at the Bavarian Sports Academy in 1963, which was integrated into TUM (Technical University of Munich) in 1973. At TUM, she initially headed the departments of Gymnastics, Dance, and Movement at the Sports Center. In 1994, she became the head of the Sports Teacher Training Department. Dr. Krombholz gained particular recognition for her role as chief hostess and choreographer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Munich. She became well-known for inventing wheelchair dancing, establishing it as a widely recognized Paralympic discipline both domestically and internationally. Dr. Krombholz received numerous prestigious awards for her contributions.
