The Historical Archive of the TUM collects, makes accessible and preserves analogue and digital records of lasting value on the history of the 1868 founded Technical University of Munich. The focus hereby is on bringing the TUM’s history to life in its scientific, cultural, politic and societal contexts.
The Archive holds valuable material and personal documents from the period from 1845 to the present day that originated in the university’s scientific practice. In addition to administrative documents worthy of archiving, the collection focuses in particular on student and personnel files as well as the estates of former professors and alumni. As a mixed archive, the TUM Archive’s holdings consist of a wide range of media - from written records, photographs and films, through to drawings, medals, arts and crafts objects and technical instruments.
One of the TUM Archive’s central objectives is to make the Archive’s material accessible to research while respecting the protections periods. Moreover, the Archive aims to support users by providing information and making documents available.
The TUM Archive invites users from all over the world to access the archive holdings for their research. We are happy to support you by providing information and making documents available (digitally or on site, depending on the possibility). At the same time, the Archive makes its holdings accessible to academics and the general public through its own publications, exhibitions and events.
